4/222 Trevellas Farmhouse including front
- garden walls
GV II
Farmhouse, including front garden walls. C17, remodelled circa late C18. Granite
ashlar front, otherwise granite and killas rubble. Dry Delabole slate hipped roof
over front range grouted scantle slate roofs over front part of rear wing and on
lean-to at the left. Rendered rubble stack with brick shaft over left-hand wall,
probably C17 rubble stack with brick shaft behind and a brick chimney over C17 stack
between right-hand room and rear wing.
Plan: Double depth plan, remodelled circa late C18 from what may have been a larger
probably U-shaped plan. 2 rooms at the front flanking a former through passage; back
kitchen behind left-hand room with C18 stair on its right (approached from the
passage) and a 1-room-plan wing at right angles behind the right-hand room. This
wing has a C17 fireplace with 2 ovens (inserted later). C20 extension over back
kitchen.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3 window south front with central doorway. Circa
early C20 porch with cusped barge boards to its front gable; narrow window over,
otherwise wide window openings with tripartite sashes. Ground floor window openings
are spanned by flat arches with granite voussoirs. Windows are circa late C19 or C20
horned sashes.
Interior: Largely unaltered since the C18 with many features of this date including;
late C18 dog-leg stair; Adsm-style chimney-piece in the right-hand room (the parlour)
moulded dado rail in left-hand room; and 6-panel doors. C17 fireplace with ovolo-
moulded hardwood lintel and 2 later cloam ovens in rear wing . First floor rooms and
old (probably C18) roof structure not inspected.
Large irregularly shaped garden in front of the house is bounded on 3 sides by high
rubble walls. Right of house is a higher wall with scantle slate copings. Screening
the farmyard. Lower wall at the front has a C17 terminal pier at either end. The
piers have moulded and tapered caps, with ball finials, shaped like pawns in the game
of chess.
