Lodge to Carclew Estate and including gate-piers and associated walling. Built in
1871 for Colonel Tremayne. Dressed and coursed freestone with granite quoins sills
and lintels to front elevations, otherwise rubble. Steep L-shaped dry Delabole slate
roof with projecting eaves and verges with exposed purlins and shaped and trefoil
pierced bargeboards. Brick chimney over ridge intersection. ,
L-shaped plan of 3 rooms with front entrance near angle in south wall of longer
western arm of L. Being extended to east by wing in similar style (1985).
Single storey plus attic. Principal elevations to west and south. West front,
facing driveway has gable end projection with ground floor and gable 2-light windows,
left, and set back to right the side wall of south wing with one 2-light window.
South front has side wall of west wing, left, with single-light window and doorway
with ledged door, right, and projecting gable end of south wing right with 2-light
window to gable. All original windows with round-headed arched lights with leaded
lozenge patterned glazing.
Interior not inspected but hatch to roof space has the names of the workmen/builders
under that of Colonel Tremayne.
Gate-piers are round-headed granite monoliths with adjoining rubble cyma-on-plan
walling with sloped granite copings.
