GV II
House, used partly as shop. Probably C17, eaves heightened circa early-mid C18 and
extended at probably the same time. Stucco front, otherwise painted rubble. Scantle
slate roof at the front, scantle slate at the rear; brick chimneys over gable ends
and brick shaft over front wall towards left.
T-shaped plan. Probably originally a 3-room-through-passage plan with higher end,
left, hall in the middle and through passage and lower end, right. In circa early-
mid C18 extended with wing at right angles to rear middle; in the C19 extended with
a long single-storey outbuilding at the middle of the right hand end and probably
circa late C19 - early C20 stuccoed at the front.
Two storeys. Regular 2: 3 bay south road front. Doorway within stuccoed porch with
entablature in 4th from left bay. Rusticated pilaster quoin strip with entablature
at far. left and right; flush lateral stack between second and third bays and C20
windows.
The east wall of the rear wing has midfloor stair window adjoining the angle; square
ground floor window and very wide 1st floor window opening over and extending further
to the right, both with C18 horizontal sliding sashes with very wide glazing bars; 2-
light ground floor window and 4-light 1st floor window, 6-panes per light and some
crown glass. At the right is a wide battered rubble buttress.
Interior of the front part is little altered since the C19 and retains a vestige of
the C18 moulded muntin and plank partition of the former through passage. Otherwise
not inspected.
The C18 windows in the rear wing are some of the earliest examples of this type yet
found in this survey.
