House, formerly farmhouse. Late C16/early C17 core, C17 alterations, C20
restoration. Rendered, colour-washed cob with slate roof and rendered chimneys.
3 rooms and cross passage plan, formerly a through passage. Lateral stack to
hall, projecting stack to left gable end. Stone stair adjacent to hall stack,
rear projection lit by 2-light, ovolo-moulded mullioned window contains second
stair. Partial rear outshut. Right end of front, probably former unheated
parlour, under lower roofline. Steps up to off-centre, 2-storey, gabled porch
with seats. 2nd storey rebuilt 1970s with 2-light granite mullioned window
replaced on pattern of original. Ground floor window left 3-light casement
with glazing bars; granite-framed stair light to right of porch: 4-light
granite mullioned window under hood mould to hall 8 panes per light; ground
floor right, 3-light casement with glazing bars. First floor window-left, 3-
light casement with glazing bars; porch window; granite-framed stair light; two
2-light casements in 1970s gable dormers, windows were formerly under raking
roofs. Ground floor interior slate-floored, stud partition walls to cross
passage. Hall fireplace has granite lintel and jambs, slatestone newel stair to
right of hearth. Ground floor room left has unhewn fireplace beam. Ground
floor room right has widely-spaced ceiling beams and low semi-circular
projection to wall with hall. First floor has 3 bays of raised crucks above
hall with threaded ridge, collars in roof space mortised into principals. First
floor room to right of hall has fireplace and curved principal with low face and
side-pegged joint. Evidence of former bressumer in room above present hall.
Other principals throughout have curved feet. First floor stud wall
incorporates some moulded timbers from demolished house in Week St Mary. First
floor room left has fireplace with stone lintel. Hall fireplace lintel was
plastered with decoration of moons, stars and heads, 1 remaining head in the
possession of the present owner.
