Shops, former house, C17/18, timber framed and plastered. Two storey 'L' shaped
range, with taller roof to Market Place, hipped on corner and with 2 lower ridge
line parts on Stortford Road frontage. Stortford Road elevation has, on first
floor 3 double hung sashes with small panes and moulded surrounds, the centre
one now infilled. Ground floor has one similar double hung sash and early C19
doorcase with elliptical attached fluted Doric columns supporting flat hood and
frieze with modified Greek fret insert. Within a semi-circular fanlight with
radiating glazing bars and original 6 panel door with oval top panels and reeded
centre panels. High quality late C19 projecting shopfront wraps around on to
Market Place frontage. This elevation has 5 double hung sashes with small panes
and moulded surrounds over previously described shopfront and further late C19
projecting shopfront with wide spaced mullions, low stallriser and stone steps.
Big stack on ridge line of Stortford Road frontage and remnants of ashlared
plaster on first floor. Interior reveals early C19 fireplaces, doors and
architraves and exposed timber frame in some rooms. The roof reveals evidence
for crosswing-like structure on W end.
