Pair of attached houses, with shops inserted at ground floor. Circa 1830-40, with
later C20 alterations to the shops, and C20 alterations. Stone rubble, rendered at
ground floor, slate-hung and painted above. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable
ends. Gable end stack to left with rendered shaft; the right gable end has stack
with brick shaft shared with the adjoining house to right.
Plan: Pair of attached houses, probably originally with paired central entrances,
with principal front rooms at the outer sides, heated from gable end stacks. The
shops are in the front rooms, remodelled in C20. Friends is to left and Jaynes to
right.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 4-window front. First floor has four 12-pane
sashes in exposed boxes of early C19. Ground floor has continuous plain fascia over
both shop fronts. Friends to left has three plate-glass windows with glazed door
with one fielded panel and overlight. Jaynes to right has C20 door with pilasters
and blocked overlight, two large plate-glass windows to right.
Interior: Not inspected, but may retain features of early C19 at first floor.
