Farmhouse now house and barn. Late C17. Painted stucco under graduated
greenslate roof with rebuilt stone chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays with lower
barn to right. Plank door in cross-passage entrance. 2-light chamfered
stone-mullioned windows; that on ground floor left is a casement window in C18
enlarged surround, and small chamfered-surround fire window to right. Barn has
central cart entrance with wooden lintel. C20 windows to left, that part of the
wall being reconstructed at time of survey. Home of John Peel, the famous
Cumbrian huntsman from 1823 until his death there in 1854. See Hugh Machell,
