Farmhouse. Circa mid C17, with alterations of later C17. Alterations and additions
of mid - late C19 and some C20 alterations and additions. Rendered stone rubble.
Slate roof with crested ridge tiles, hipped to left and half-hipped to right. End
stack to left with rendered brick shaft. Front lateral stack to right with C18 brick
shaft.
Plan: 2-room and passage plan; it was not possible to determine whether the passage
was a through passage or a cross passage. The lower end room is to left, heated from
an end stack. The hall is to right; circa late C17 the hall stack appears to have
been rebuilt with a hall bay to right. Set back to end right there is a room at the
upper end, probably an addition of circa late C17 - C18; this is unheated. There are
additions of C19 at the left end and behind the passage and lower end room.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 4-window front; all windows are C19 and C20. At
ground floor to left is a C20 glazed lean-to along the front of the lower end room
and the doorway to the passage. Inside, there is a C19 3-light 3-pane casement and
plank door with overlight. At first floor a late C19 4-pane sash and 2-light 3-pane
casement. To right, there is a large external hall stack and the bay to right with
2-light 2-pane C19 casement at ground floor and 2-light 3-pane C19 casement at first
floor. Set back to right is the upper end room, with C20 window at ground floor and
C19 2-light 3-pane casement at first floor. The right end is blind, built into the
bank. The left end has 2-storey C19 addition. At the rear, the upper end room has
C19 2-light 3-pane casement at ground floor. The hall has C19 3-light 2-pane
casement at ground floor and C19 2-light 6-pane casement with L hinges at first
floor. The rear of the passage is enclosed by a C19 2-storey addition with C20
window at ground and first floor on the inner side. At the rear of this addition
there is a single casement to left and 3-light 4-pane casement to right at ground
floor; first floor has C20 window and late C19 4-pane sash.
Interior: Not fully inspected. The hall has moulded ceiling beams, possibly C18; the
front lateral fireplace is rebuilt. Rest of house not accessible.
