GOUDHURST RANTERS LANE
TQ 73 NW Risebridge

5/247
Bridge at Risebridge
(712 367)
II
Bridge. C18 or earlier, extended C19. Sandstone and extended with red brick
and now embanked over with earth. The older stone face to west (upstream), with
2 chamfered rounded arches and central pier, each arch sapnning about 4 feet,
the stone parapet above now retaining the base of the embankment. Extended
downstream (to east) by single arched and tunnel vaulted mid Cl9 brick bridge,
to form something of a culvert. The extension and embankment connected with the
creation of the almost contiguous railway bridge. The hamlet of Risebridge
which takes its name from this bridge was known as Stonebridge C17.
