GV II
House, formerly vicarage. C17 core with thorough late C18 remodelling and circa mid
C19 wing. Stone rubble, whitewashed and rendered to main range, formerly slate-hung
on the front. The C19 wing has brick dressings. Slate roofs hipped at ends, bitumen
painted to the main range. 1 large stack to the rear of the ridge of the main range.
Brick stack to the wing. The C17 plan has largely been obscured by the later
remodelling but may have been a through passage plan with 1 lateral and 1 gable end
stack (shaft dismantled), and sited at the rear of the present double depth plan of
the main range. In the C18 the house was extended to the front and re-roofed but
retains a wide through passage. A mid C19 wing was added at the right-end,
projecting to the rear and forming an L-plan. 2 storeys. Long asymmetrical 8-bay
garden front, the 2 right-hand bays set back in the C19 wing. The 6-bay main range
facade has a flat-roofed C20 porch to the 4th bay and a half-glazed late C18 wide
front door with thick glazing bars. All windows to the main range facade 12-pane
boxed late C18 hornless sashes mostly with crown glass. Three C19 sashes to the wing
and one C20 sash, all with glazing bars.
Interior C18 joinery includes 2-panel and 6-panel doors. 2 first floor rooms have
C18 panelling and panelled dados. C18 stair with turned balusters, repaired and
extended in the late C20.
