Detached cottage. Possibly late C17 with later alterations. Plastered random
rubble, perhaps with some cob; gable end roof covered with corrugated iron, but
with some thatch visible below. 2-room cottage; entrance directly into right-hand
room which is heated by an external end stack. 2 storeys.
Exterior. Front: irregular range with only 1 single-light window to left-hand room,
and 2 later 2-light windows to the right with C20 glazed door between. Rear
extension dated 1950.
Interior : left-hand room with chamfered cross beam with scroll stops. Roof with
straight principals and trenched purlins. Studley's is an intact example of a late
C17 small-holder's (or possibly originally a squatter's) cottage in remote terrain
on the southern slopes of the Blackdown Hills. (of. Shoebrook's Cottage, q.v.).
