- Wiston Farmhouse

Ash-house. Probably C18. Unrendered cob on low stone rubble plinth. Slate roof
with gable ends.
The ash-house is virtually square on plan, with a central doorway with timber lintel
on the west side, and allow raking hole with a peaked head cut through the plinth
and base of the cob at the right gable end. Single storey, but of sufficient height
to carry a low loft.
The ash-house is situated in the north-east corner of the orchard to the front of
Wiston farmhouse. The ash was stored primarily for use as a fertilizer for mangold
crops for feeding sheep.
