Farmhouse. Probably early C16, remodelled in late C16 or early C17, lower end
extended and interior partially remodelled in late C18. Painted rendered stone
rubble and cob. Slate roof with gable end brick stacks and capped front lateral
hall stack.
Plan: 3 room-and-cross-passage plan, lower end to right, with wide passage
containing staircase and second staircase to rear of lower room. Parlour to right
of passage, at lower end, kitchen to left, inner room end. Hall and inner
roomoriginally open to roof, floors and stacks inserted probably in late C16 or
early C17. Lower end largely rebuilt and extended in C18. Continuous single storey
outshut to rear.
Exterior: 2 storeys. 5-window range. C19 and C20 fenestration two 3-light
casements on each floor to left end, 2 and 3 panes per light, otherwise 2 light
casements 2 panes per light except for 3 light casement to ground floor right end.
Raised and fielded 6 panelled door with shallow bracketted timber canopy.
Interior: inner room has cross beam made up of 2 half ½ beams. Bread oven to
fireplace. Hall has chamfered cross beam with hollow step stops and chamfered
fireplace lintel damaged by fire. 3 integral cupboards with panelled doors to lower
end of hall and some good C18 raised and fielded dado panelling and panelled
shutters to hall and cross-passage. Cross-passage has chamfered axial ceiling beam.
Lower end parlour has unchamfered ceiling beam keyed to take plaster. C18 and C19
panelled doors mostly survive throughout, with few subsequent alterations.
Roof: single jointed cruck truss over hall with morticed and tenoned cambered
collar, diagonally set ridge and trenched purlins, most of the rafters to the hall,
and some to the inner room survive, all heavily smoke-blackened. Roof over lower
end and inner room replaced in C18 and C20.
