Fairholme, Seaview
Cottage and The Nook
GV II
Row of 3 cottages, probably originally one house, extended and converted into 3
cottages. Probably C17; probably remodelled and extended in C18 or early C19 and
extended at rear later in C19. Rendered over stone rubble or cob. Thatched roof
with gabled end to left and half-hipped right hand end. Slate roof rear wing with
gable end. Two rendered axial stacks and rendered gable end stack to left. The
axial stacks and rendered gable end stack to left. The axial stack to right of
centre is original, has weathering and has been heightened in brick. Plan: A long
range of 3 cottages each probably of 1-room plan with a doorway to the right. The
centre (Seaview Cottage) and right hand cottage (The Nook) appear to be the original
house with a central axial stack and the right hand cottage (Fairholme) a C18 or C19
extension when it was converted into a row of 3 cottages. Fairholme to the right
was itself extended at the back with a wing in the late C19. Exterior: 2 storeys.
Asymmetrical 3-window range. C19 16-pane 2-light casements, that on ground floor
left (Fairholme) has C20 replacement without glazing bars. Doorways to right of
each cottage; to left and right (Fairholme and The Nook) have late C19 moulded and
panelled doors; the centre (Seaview Cottage) has C20 plank door. The rear elevation
was not inspected but behind Fairholme there is a gable-ended 2 storey wing.
Interior: Inaccessible at time of survey 1988.
