Gate piers and steps. Piers and finials possibly C18 or earlier, steps not
datable. Two square granite piers with truncated pyramidal heads crowned by
large spherical granite balls; each pier has two deep sunk recesses or panels on
the inner face, and it is clear that these are re-used from elsewhere; in all
c.1.5 m high, containing early C20 wood gate; set at head of 7 stone steps to a
square landing, and a further granite step at the gateway. One of the ball
finials is cut vertically at the inner face, and local tradition says that when
the local wheelwright, one 'Whacky' Davies, came to hang the wooden gate, he
took a hatchet to the finial in order that the gate would fit.
