Built in 1878-9, for the actress Lillie Langtry, included partly for historical
reasons. Red brick and half-timber, tiled roofs, tall chimneys, style of Norman
Shaw. Best feature the north-west corner pavilion, with balconied bedroom under
high roof, hipped on both sides with arched gablet at apex, STET FORTUNA DOMUS
incised in plasterwork of half-timbering. Big triple chimneystack and partly
tilehung gable to north, timber porch under partly tilehung gable to west. South
front to garden with 3 half-timbered gables of different sizes, timber verandah
continuing lean-to roof of adjoining bay window. Interiors with contemporary
woodwork.
