II
Detached rectory, now private dwelling, dated 1712 with C19 alterations and
incorporating reused C16 stonework. Banded brick and flint with tiled roof
having end brick stacks. Two storeys and attics, 5-window range. 2-part sashes,
each part being of five lights. Flat brick arches, plastered coved eaves cornice.
The central upper floor has a reset C16 window of three lights with Perpendicular
tracery under a square head with carved spandrels. Ground floor central has a
restored C16 moulded stone doorway with 4-centred head above which is a
damaged black-letter inscription in carved relief. Above the doorway is a
reset niche with a canopied head and shafted jambs, the bracket bearing a carved
shield of arms. The door is panelled and part-glazed. To the right are two French
doors.
Internal features (RCHM) : C19 plasterwork, joinery and chimney pieces; the
thickness of some of the internal walls suggests it may incorporate elements of
an earlier building. (RCHM, Dorset, vol.IV, p.53, no.4.)
