Detached Stables and Cart-Shed. C18, or earlier. Rubble-stone walls to 1.5 metres
height with chalk block walls above. Thatch roof, (wheat reed) with gable ends.
Two loops in chalk and down into rubble base. Plank door between with a wooden
lintel over. 2-leaf plank-shuttered window into back of stable. Elevation to yard,
from east: double-plank doors (garage); 4 bays of cart-shed with 3 C20 brick piers
for supports. 2 eyebrow dormers, formerly to lofts, right hand with a C20 clock-face.
Rubble masonry and a straight joint. 2-leaf plank shutters to window. Stable-door
with wooden frame and concrete lintel. 2-leaf plank shutters to window, square frame
with ovolo moulding. Square opening without shutters. Cart Shed roof construction:
collar-trusses, halved and double-pegged. 2 sets of butt-purlins. An important
vernacular farm-building for its local materials, intactness, location and grouping.
