C17 - originally one house, enlarged and divided into two houses in C18. No. 22 has
stone walls, plastered, thatched roof, brick stacks. One storey and attic.
Two-storeyed rear wing of similar construction, and single-storey slate-roofed rear
lean-to. Ledged entrance door with glass panel. Ground floor has three casement
windows with glazing bars. Attic as two dormers with similar casements.
Internally, one ground floor room has large open fireplace with timber lintel, and
chamfered ceiling beam. No. 23 has stone walls, thatched roof, brick stack. One
storey and attics. Single-storey slate-roofed extension at rear. Ledged door with
glass panel. Ground floor has two casement windows with glazing bars. Attic has
one dormer with similar casements. Modern dormer extension in rear roof slope.
Internally, main ground floor room has large open fireplace with bread oven - part
built up. Roof of jointed cruck construction - cruck post at doorway. Evidence of
face pegs suggests an original open hall. RCHM Monument 10.
