Private Chapel to Lulworth Castle. Built 1786-7 for Thomas Weld. Architect and
Builder John Tasker. Ashlar stone walls, flat roof, with shallow lead-covered dome
in centre. Square plan with segmental apses on all four sides and rectangular
northex at south (liturgical "east") end. Entrances here and on north. In
classical style. Walls, on rusticated plinth, have parapet with moulded cornice.
Carved urns at angles of central section. Windows with glazing bars on two
storeys - lighting galleries. South front has central door with fanlight, in
round-headed opening, in a shallow portico with Tuscan columns and entablature. On
each side of this a niche with carved urn, and window over. Internally, central
area defined by Tuscan columns. Painted ceiling to dome. Carved marble altar,
marble vase font, hatchments, and organ - all C18. Early Post-Emancipation
