House and village rooms. C15 and early C19. Timber framed, part exposed
with plaster infill, part clad with painted brick, extended with structural
red brick part painted. Plain tiled and slated roof. Hall house with jettied
cross-wing and C19 wing added at lower end of hall. Central hall range of
1 storey and attic with hipped roof projecting 2 storey and return hipped
wing to left with returned jetty on dragon post; 2 storey wing with battlements
to right. Hipped dormer to centre, and stacks at end left and centre right.
Irregular fenestration of 5 Gothick windows. Boarded door in left return.
Right return: 2 storeys and battlements. Regular fenestration of 2 three-
light Gothick traceried metal casements with gauged basket arched heads and
central 2 light traceried metal casement with gauged ogee surround on first
floor, and 2 three-light casements with gauged basket arches on ground floor.
Central panelled door with fanlight in ogee headed surround. Interior:
frame visible. The Gothick metal casements are of iron on the outside and
bronze or brass on the inside. This part of the building is used as the
village club, founded by the Dawes family of Mount Ephraim, and one of the
earliest in the country. (See B.0.E. Kent II, 1983, 351).
