House. C17 or earlier with C18, C19 and early C20 alterations and additions.
Mainly timber framed and rough rendered with some plaster to ground floor and
batten decoration to first floor. C19 and C20 additions of brick with matching
rendering to main range. Red plain tiled roofs. 2 plastered brick chimney
stacks. 2 storeys and C19 cellar. The long original range gabled and jettied
to left (road face) with batten decoration to gable. Projecting off centre
right 2 storey C19 gable jettied with batten decoration, moulded timber
bressumers, jetty half underbuilt by part glazed porch to right; turned
balusters with upper arches to jetty to left, 2 panel 2 light door. To left and
right of this gable are respectively 2 and one bay set back extensions, that to
right jettied. There is an opposing gable extension to rear. First floor
2:2:1:1:1 window range of various C19, early C20 casements and vertically
sliding sashes. Ground floor, 3:2:1:1:1 of similar vari-lights, road face with
first floor C19 3 light casement with transom and 2 casements with segmental
heads to ground floor. Internally, some side girts, storey posts and top plates
visible in original range and large chimney stack to right, this now with good
C19 moulded fire surrounds. Many C18 6 panelled doors, moulded surrounds, boxed
in bridging joists, and alcove cupboard. North and South Lodges and barn q.v.
3/29, 3/21, 3/22 were originally part of Whitbreds estate. RCHM 7.
