House. Circa 1805-9 for William Walker, a sugar refiner from Houndsditch
(Reds Record Office: HY465-475). Restored C20. Red brick. Slate roofs.
Double-pile building of almost square plan, 2 storeys on a basement. Hipped
2-span roof. E elevation: 5 bay symmetrical facade. Basement has one central
window. 4 windows to piano nobile, 5 to first floor, all sashes with glazing
bars, with gauged brick flat arches. Central doorway has gauged brick semi-
circular head, semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars and fielded
panel door in moulded surround. 2-wing perron, rebuilt C20. Similar
fenestration elsewhere. Red brick integral stacks to side elevations.
Interior: ground floor retains many original doors and surrounds. Also
retained are some original cast iron firegrates, although fire surrounds are
C20 wood copies of marble originals. Staircase is also C20 copy.
