Small country house. 1777-8, reworked 1806. Red brick with clay tiled Mansard
roof. Double-pile plan, 2 storeys and attics. S elevation: first floor of
earlier part has 1:3:1 sash windows with glazing bars under gauged brick flat
arches. Ground floor has 2 canted bays of 1806 which overlap into central bay
and contain sash windows with glazing bars under gauged brick heads. Central
bay projects slightly and is surmounted by triangular pediment containing
semi-circular window in tympanum. Attic has 2 box dormers containing sashes.
Central doorway contains part-glazed double doors surmounted by semi-circular
fanlight with radiating ornamental glazing bars. Surround has half-columns
supporting broken pediment.LH bay added 1806, with canted bay to ground floor,
2 sash windows to first floor, and box dormer to attic. Wood modillion
cornice and plain stone-coped parapet extend across complete elevation. Red
brick gable end stacks to both ends. Red brick ridge stacks, originally LH
gable end stacks of earlier building. N elevation: earlier part has 2
Venetian windows to each floor. Central 6 panel door and rectangular fanlight
under flat cornice hood. Interior: drawing room retains decoration of 1806 in
Egyptian style. Marble chimney-piece carved with trophies of musical
instruments, surmounted by mirror with anthemion frieze and female heads to
surround. Moulded dado and cornice. Pilasters adjacent to bay window have
"Tower of the Winds" capitals. Upper part of walls divided into panels with
border decorations of sphinxes and mummies.
