ST 68 NW AUST ELBERTON

8/97 Barn about 35 metres north of
Old Manor

Barn. C16 with later alterations and additions. Rubble, pantiled roof with
central break in roof-line, asbestos slate front to gable over north cart entry.
Cruciform plan including central cart entry to north and south. South front
has outshut extensions to either side of blocked cart entry, ventilation slits
to all sides, single storey extension to north, east side has C20 cart entry,
west side has single storey extension. Interior: 9 bays, 3 arched-brace and
collar trusses to west with 2 wind-braces in one bay on the north slope,
3 collar and upper collar and plated yoke trusses to east, one C20 truss to
west of cart entry, one truss to east of cart entry has a jointed base cruck
rising from a high point below the top of the wall on north slope only with
arched-brace and collar, short C20 wall plate replacing base of former cruck to
south, pair of upper cruck blades above collar; mostly 2 purlins, with some
3 purlins at east end of north slope.
