6/17 Yew Tree Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C17, extended to front c. 1800, with later alterations. Colour-
washed rubble, said to contain cob walling in early building, double Roman tiled
roofs with brick gable stacks to rear and ridge stack to front block. Probably
former through passage plan. First building of 2 storeys and 2 windows (former
windows to left blocked by later building), ground floor has 4-light casement
with replaced wooden ovolo mullions, leaded lights and hood mould, first floor
has 2 similar 3-light casements under eaves, doorway to left has ovolo-moulded
and stopped frame, studded door with raised fillets, straphinges and timber
lintel. Front range of 2 storeys and 4 windows, all C20 casements, door 2nd
from left with hood, right return has ground floor fixed light with margin
glazing and C20 casement in gable end, left return has C20 multi-pane casement at
ground and first floor; door and blocked first floor window to rear. Right
return of first building has small single light with timber lintel at ground
floor to left of flue, left return has blocked door and first floor window to
left of flue, oven projecting to right with slated top. Rear has 3 C20
casements with glazing bars under eaves, ground floor has 4-light casement with
replaced ovolo mullions and timber lintel, small 3-light casement with timber
lintel (possibly former position of door), C20 2-light casement and greenhouse
attached to right with 1/2-glazed inner door with frame cut back for passage of
barrels. Interior: not inspected.
