Probably mid-C19. In the form of Renaissance fortifications. Coursed rubble with
ashlar coping. Embrasures at wide intervals. At the west end the walls enclose
raised square "terreplain", with corner bastions. Under the square is a long barrel
vaulted storage chamber, possibly an ice-house entered from field level.
The terrace might have been a bowling green.
