Description

SX 07 NW ST ENDELLION
5/8 Poltreworgey Farmhouse
- II
Farmhouse. Possibly early to mid C18. Stone rubble with brick segmental arches to
openings and slate-hung stair projection on rear elevation. Bitumen coated slate
roof with gable ends continued in cat-slide over integral outshut to rear. Brick
chimney stacks on gable ends with projecting stack on right.
Interesting plan with 2 main reception rooms to front, central cross passage and 2
smaller service rooms to rear in integral outshut. Stair well at back of passage
rising above the roof of the rear outshut. Thick wall between reception rooms and
service rooms.
2 storeys and attic with symmetrical 3-window front. C20 fenestration in earlier
openings with brick segmental arches. C20 entrance door in centre, flanked by 2 C20
windows with 3 similar windows above and 2-light casement in hipped full dormer above
at centre. Catslide roof over rear integral outshut over which rises at centre the
slate-hung stair tower with an original 28-pane window. Similar window below and C20
casements to right and left in outshut.
Interior partly remodelled with partitions retained. C18 stair with closed string,
square newels, moulded rail and heavy square stick balusters. Simple circa late C18
2-panel doors on first floor.
Interesting example of an early to mid C18 farmhouse with original plan surviving.
The rear elevation with the outshut and stair tower is most important feature.
