House. C15, altered in C16, C18 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roof
thatched. 2-bay hall, C15, facing SE, with late C16 axial stack at right end,
and 2-bay extension beyond, late C16. One-bay extension beyond, C18. C20
extensions to right and at rear. 2 storeys. 4 C20 casements on ground floor, 3
on first floor. Plain door, but main entrance is in right return wall. The
interior has jowled posts, heavy studding, 2 large wood-burning hearths. The
hall has a cambered tiebeam with deep arched braces almost meeting in the
middle, and a late C16 inserted floor consisting of chamfered transverse beam
with lamb's tongue stops, and longitudinal plain joists of horizontal section.
There are 3 inserted windows of early glazed type (1) with hollow-moulded
mullions, in right upper wall of hall, blocked by the stack (2) with ovolo-
moulded mullions in left lower wall of hall, blocked (3) in front upper wall of
hall, blocked. Roof inaccessible; the roof of the hall was originally of
crownpost construction, possibly rebuilt.
