Manor house. C15 and C16. Timber framed, close-studded and exposed
with painted herring-bone brick nogging, and plain tiled roofs.
Originally hall with later chamber and service blocks at either
end and porch, the service wing is demolished. Two storeys on
flint and brick plinth, with 2 projecting gables to left, the larger
the chamber wing, the smaller the porch, both jettied at first floor
on heavy dragon posts with pierced and cusped bargeboarded gables
with pendants and finials. Projecting left end stack and stack to end
right. Irregular fenestration of one 4-light segmental oriel in
each gable, with mullioned wood segmental bay window on ground
floor to left. Right return of porch with 2 light oriel on carved
brackets and shallow projecting 2 storey bay window in hall blocked
to right, and part blocked light at angle with porch. Plank
and stud door in porch with side lights, under 4-centred arched
opening with fernleaf spandrels. Left return front continuously
jettied. Interior: carved mantelpieces, fernleaf spandrels and
roses. Staircase of 2 half-flights staggered with winders and
turned balusters (See BOE Kent II, 1983, 402).
