House. Mid C16 with C17, C18, C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Part
timber frame with brick infill and part brick, grey with red dressings and
bands on south elevation, red with patterns in blue on south end of west
elevation, render to north end of west elevation; tiled roofs. Rectangular
plan running north to south with central stair tower to east flanked by catslide
over outshuts; C19 and C20 gabled cross wing to south with 2 gables on south face.
One and a half storeys; two ridge chimneys, that to south at junction with cross
wing having three stacks. West Elevation:- leaded casements on first floor, C20
casement on ground floor, 3, 2 and 3 light casements on first floor, ground floor
2-light to far left; 3-light square bay to left, two 2-light casements flanking
C20 brick and tiled porch to centre, cross wing to right. South Elevation:-
3-light mullion and transomed window with cambered head in each gable. Interior:-
considerable timber framing exposed internally, 3 bay house with smoke bay,
inserted late C16 stack and 2 bay cross wing. Early C17 newel stair with moulded
strings, turned balusters and carved finials to newels, stair with moulded strings,
turned balusters and carved finials to newels, stair possibly re-set; remains of
C17 spiral stair from first floor to attic beside stack. Late C16 stone fire
place surround in first floor bedroom. Main roof:- Queen post trusses with
clasped purlins some timbers sooted in chimney bay. Crosswing:- collar trusses
with redundant crown posts.
