5/27 2 adjoining barns at Feens Farm
II
2 adjoining barns. Late C17 and early C18. The barn on the west has a timber
frame with weatherboarding and old tile half-hipped roof. The other barn is part
brick, part flint with ventilation slots in a decorative pattern; weatherboarding in
south gable, and an old tile half-hipped roof. L-plan. The earlier barn of 5 bays is
on the east with a hipped central wagon entry, large pair of doors and aisles on the
east side. The later barn of 8 framed bays adjoins on the west, and has 2 hipped wagon
entries with 2 large pairs of doors, and aisles between on the south. Interior: both
barns have a queen post roof, 2 sets of purlins the top purlin clasped, the lower
purlin butted into the principal rafter. The later barn has chiselled carpenters marks.
The cart shed and cattle shed adjoining on the west and south are of no special
interest.
