1890 by R Robson (c.f. The Builder 1889). Large red brick 5 storey hotel with
octagonal corner turret. Very much London manner: Gloucester Road/Harrington
Road. Main block of 7 windows outer pairs flanked by pilasters. 4th floor as
deep attic storey, parapet with ball finials, swept over outer bays - windows
in arched recesses, pediments and swags. Front continued to corner turret at
slight angle, close set windows; 1st and 2nd floor balconies. Ground floor
has broad windows divided by pilasters. Doorway has paired Pompeian Doric columns
with entablature. The corner turret has carved brick/terracota swags to parapet.
Similar return front to Station approach, end bay breaks with quoin pilasters,
segmental parapet - carved terracota ornament.
