3/62 Castle Cottage
GV II
Semi-detached cottage. Mid C17. Timber-framing on flint and
rubble stone plinth, brick nogging, double Roman tiled roof, axial
brick stack. Central baffle entry, gable end to road. Single
storey and attic, 2 windows; casements. Gable end to road has C20
door and 2-light casement, weatherboard cladding. West side has
exposed timber framing with long braces from plinth to below eaves,
two C20 casements and two C20 gabled dormers. Rear gable end has
two 3-light casements to ground floor and one 4-light casement to
first floor. East side has steel casements and C20 central door,
two gabled dormers. Interior not accessible at time of survey
(September 1985), but said to have chamfered beams with shaped
stops, blocked open fireplaces.
