Church, 1875, by Brade and Smales (Pevsner) with north aisle of 1900 and
tower at west end of south nave wall of 1908 by W. Gilbee Scott
(foundation stone). Snecked sandstone rubble with slate roof. Church has
transepts, a low south aisle and a north aisle under a pitched roof.
East and west windows of geometrical tracery. West wall of north aisle has
a rose window with flowing tracery. Tower of 3 stages with angle buttresses,
with the main doorway in its west wall. The doorway is double-chamfered
with a 2-centred head, a castellated lintel over the door and a tympanum
with tracery decoration. Above is a clock, with 2-light bell openings on
each wall with foiled tracery. Tower has pyramidal slate roof behind a
battlemented parapet with corner gargoyles. Interior. Northern arcade
of 5 bays with round piers. Southern arcade of 2 bays with round piers
and heavily foliated capitals. Chancel arch has similar capitals. Chancel
has glazed and encaustic tiles, a painted timber roof and a timber south
clearstorey window. The nave has an open timber roof with arch-braced collars and
king posts.
