TL 4562 GREAT SHELFORD HIGH GREEN
(East Side)
18/72 No. 16
II
Cottage probably mid C17. Subdivided in C19 and now one
dwelling-house. Part of the roof at the rear has been raised
and an extension made c1980. Timber framed, roughcast rendered
with steeply pitched plain tiled roof and end stacks. Both
project from the gable ends, but one has earlier brick to the
base and is possibly original whilst the other, to the west,
dates from the C19 subdivision. Plan of two bays, with west
gable end to the former Green. Two storeys and attic. Two
windows on either side of C19 doorway with C20 door. East gable
end has casements and a C19 doorway. Interior: Framing of
substantial scantling, downward bracing from corner posts and
ceilings carried on clamps pegged to the studs. Studs
continuous from sill to wall plate except at gable ends and
partition wall where the main posts are thickened to carry the
main beams of the ceiling. Joists are unmoulded and laid flat
and the main beam in one room is stop chamfered. The ceiling in
the attic has re-used timber.
