Farmhouse. Circa mid to late C18 but probably with an earlier core, C19
fenestration. Colourwashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings, stone rubble lean-
to at rear, slate roof hipped at left end, gabled at right end. Projecting rear left
lateral stack with set-offs, brick chimney at right end.
The original plan may have been a late C16 or early C17 2 room and cross passage
house, the hall heated by the lateral stack. It is difficult to judge whether the
lower end was originally unheated or not, but it was probably in use as a kitchen by
the circa mid to late C18 when the rear lean-to containing a dairy was added. The
stair and roof trusses are circa late C18/early C19. In the circa C19 the lower end
chimney appears to have been adapted to take a flue leading into the right-hand end
of the rear lean-to which was used as a smoking house. The pipe no longer exists and
the lower end fireplace appears to have been partly rebuilt. The lean-to is in use
as a kitchen. 2 storeys. Regular 4-window front with 2 half-glazed doors, the left-
hand leading directly into the room heated by the lateral stack, the right-hand door
leading into a small stair lobby. Fenestration throughout of 2-light casements with
8 panes per light and slate sills. A stable with loft over slightly set back,
adjoins the right-hand end.
Interior C20 grate to lateral stack may conceal earlier features. The large lower
end fireplace has stone ruubble jambs and a plain timber lintel which is supported
with a metal plate at the left end. Exposed joists to the lower end room. The stair
has stick balusters, a turned newel post and ramped handrail. Plank doors are circa
late C18. A rear window lighting the stair is early C19 Gothic with an arched head
and intersecting glazing bars. Pegged collar rafter roof trusses with X-apex.
