House and cottage, now one, and railings. Mid-late C18. Coursed rubble,
stone slate roof, wrought-iron railings. 2 storeys, 4:1 first-floor
windows. House: openings have segmental relieving arches above thin slab
lintels. Ground floor: 24-pane sash window; leaved part-glazed doors below
overlight; 24-pane sash window; leaved part-glazed doors below overlight;
16-pane sash window. Dripmould, stepping up high above leaved doors. First
floor: two 12-pane sashes; one 16-pane sash, one small casement window.
Shaped kneelers, ashlar coping. End stacks. Cottage to right, projecting
forward: quoins; board door and sash window with glazing bars on ground
floor; dripmould; sash window with glazing bars on first floor. Stack at
end right, square in plan, with circular upper section. In front of house,
plain railings, with urn finials to standards and square ashlar gate piers
in centre. Probably built as a 3-storey house for Samuel Lindsey, Askrigg
Attorney. Hartley, M & Ingilby, J, Yorkshire Village (1979), pp 120-1.
