GV II*

House, probably mid C17 with C18 addition. Rendered rubble with stone slate
roof. The C17 wing is substantial and may be part of a once larger house. 3
storeys and attic. the south gable end has one window at each stage, all double
chamfered with hoodmoulds, of 8, 7, 4 and 2 lights. Ball finial to apex. the
left hand return wall has a very large chimney breast with one blocked and one
open single light, and 2 double chamfered 2-light windows near the south-west
corner. To the rear all windows are C19 including a tall round-headed stair
window. The later wing is of 2 lower storeys, with recessed flat faced mullion
windows of 3 lights to each floor. In this part is a segmental-arched fireplace
with the arch formed of 2 stones incised to give the appearance of joggled
voussoirs, The older part is said (provisional list) to contain a fireplace and
a carved panel with coat of arms but access was denied. The house is on a scale
unusual in the area and forms a good group with its barn (q.v.)
