House and shops. Early C16 domestic range converted in C19 to
house and two shops. Rendered and colourwashed timber frame;
roof of black-glazed pantiles.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. 4-window range. To right of elevation a
c1830 shop front: pilasters with Greek key frieze, C20 plate
glass. Panelled door and plate-glass display window next left.
Late C19 shop display window follows and facade terminates
with a 3/3 horned sash. First floor lit through three 2-light
casements and an 8/8 unhorned sash to right. Gabled roof with
two ridge stacks. Rear with 2-storey early C19 outshut and an
C18 2-storey cross wing to north.
INTERIOR: frame of moderate scantling. Chamfered bridging
beams and joists throughout. Early C19 stick-baluster
staircase with turned newels moved in late C20 further north
of original site. Ramped handrail. Centre room with C18
inglenook fireplace with full-width brick canopy. 5-light
diamond mullioned window in original rear wall with rebates
for sliding shutters, the C16 house having been one room deep.
Wall plate exhibits face-halved scarf joints. Arched and
tension braces to tie beams below clasped purlin roof.
