House, now 2 houses, formerly house and surgery. Plastered and
whitewashed timber-framed rear wing c1600, early C19 red brick
front range to street. Composition roof to front, black-glazed
pantiles to rear wing.
EXTERIOR: facade of 2 storeys cut down from 3 storeys mid C20.
8-window range. 6-panelled and fielded door in sixth bay (from
left) within plain timber doorcase with hood on brackets. Door
reached by double flight of steps with cast-iron railings. The
window on both floors immediately right of door is blind, with
painted glazing bars. Fenestration otherwise of 6/6 unhorned
sashes beneath flat skewback arches of herringbone gault
brick. Flat roof with two truncated stacks. Attached to south
gable is a single-storey late C19 extension (No.1B, formerly
surgery) lit through three 2/2 horned sashes and entered
through a 4-panelled door reached by flight of steps with
cast-iron railings. Gabled 2-storey rear wing fitted with
mixed C19 and C20 casements. Internal gable-end stack to west.
INTERIOR: wide entrance hall with boxed bridging beams. Room
to north with large-framed C19 dado panelling. South room with
C20 fireplace on fluted Ionic columns. Stick-baluster
staircase with ramped handrail. Rear wing with clasped purlin
roof. No.1A, the former stables, is not included.
