Country House. c1860. Red brick with ashlar dressings. Slate
roofs with raised gables and many tall brick stacks. Chamfered
plinth, and flush ashlar quoins. Narrow first floor band and
moulded eaves band. 2 Storey plus attics. H plan.
South east front, 5 bays. Recessed centre with 3 plain sashes on
both floors, with ashlar surrounds. Eitherside are single 2
storey canted bay windows also with plain sashes and ashlar
surrounds, above these bays are curved gables with ashlar coping
and single smaller plain sashes.
South west front, 3 bays. To the left a 2 storey canted bay
window, to the right an ashlar square bay window with strap-work
parapet, and above 2 plain sashes.
North west entrance front, 5 irregular bays. Recessed centre has
to right a projecting ashlar porch, with coupled Doric columns
supporting an entablature and plain parapet, with a large door
and narrow flanking lights. To the left a single plain sash, and
above a tripartite sash and a single plain sash. The projecting
bay to the right has a single plain sash to both floors, with a
smaller sash above in the curved gable. The projecting left bay
is obscured by the lower service wing, and has 2 narrow sashes
on the ground floor, and a small sash above with another sash in
the curved gable.
The service wing is lower, single storey plus attic. South west
front, has to the right a curved link containing a doorway with
4 panel door and overlight, and above an ashlar panel and a
gabled dormer window. To the left 3 plain sashes, with above 3
through-eaves dormers with gabled tops. Beyond a projecting bay
with a single sash to both floors, under a curved gable. The
north west front, 5 bays with a slightly projecting centre with
large gable. 5 plain sashes with above central sash flanked by
2 through-eaves dormers.
Interior: Main reception rooms have elaborate coving, and good
quality marble fireplaces with mirrored overmantles. Very fine
wooden staircase with turned balusters and square newels with
finials. Laundry retains its original stove and drying shelves.
