7/4 Blacksmiths Arms
II
House of 2 builds, now public house. Early/mid C18 to left, late C18 to
right. Hammer dressed limestone to left, brick to right, both painted, and
pantile roof. Former through-passage to left, hallway entry to right. To
rear: outshut beneath catslide roof to left, C19 range parallel to front
range to right, stable block to extreme right. 2 storeys, 3 first floor
windows. To left: board door with 6-pane sash to left, both under
channelled lintels. To right: 2 steps to 6-panel door flanked by 16-pane
sashes beneath cambered brick arches with evidence of blocked doorway to
left. First floor: to left a 6-pane sash, to right 2 unequal 9-pane sashes,
all beneath wooden lintels. Dentilled eaves course to right side.
Steeply-pitched swept roof with end and ridge stacks. The rear outshut
formerly housed the village smithy.
