II*
Pair of lodges with linking walls, outer and inner gate-piers and gates.
Mid-late C18, possibly by John Carr, with C20 addition. Ashlar,
wrought-iron gates, Westmorland slate roofs. The 2 small lodge houses are

a single-leaf gate link the outer to the inner gate-piers which in turn
support the inner pair of gates. Lodges: single storey, of 1 bay on left,
of 2 bays on right. Entrances to rear. Round-headed sash windows with
glazing bars are set in round-arched recesses. Banded rustication below
impost band carried around the building. Paterae flank heads of windows
below dentilled triangular pediments with ashlar coping. Cylindrical stacks
at ridge centres. Each lodge has pillars flanking gable end supporting
globe with projecting fluted band. The curved linking walls, approximately
2 metres high, have flat copings. The outer pair of gate-piers,
approximately 3 metres high, support forward-facing sphinxes. The inner
pair, approximately 4 metres high, have an entablature with rosette motif
and a triangular pediment surmounted by inward-facing lions with paw on
globe. Both sets of piers have banded rustication. Gates: outer
