Barn. C15 or C16, encased in brick in C18 with rebuilding of east end and
repairs of 1928. Timber-framing, brick, pantile roof. Single-aisled barn
of 4½ bays with entrance to second bay and aisle to north. South facade:
double board doors. Board pitching door to fourth bay. 3 rows of vents.
Tumbling in and raised gable ends. Interior: jowled posts on padstones,
originally with straight three-way bracing, but braces to tie-beams now
absent. Mortices for aisle ties visible. Collar and tie-beam roof with no
ridge. 2 sets of through purlins with edge-halved, bridled scarf joints
trenched into backs of principal rafters. Prince Rupert's troops are said
to have been billeted here before the Battle of Marston Moor in 1644.
Several bays to the west were destroyed by fire in 1928.
