Barn with horse engine house and attached cartshed with granary over. Early C19
barn; engine house and cartshed added mid C19. Pinkish-brown brick in English
garden wall bond (4:1); pantile roofs. 4-bay barn, engine house projecting from
bay 3, with 3-bay cartshed attached to right. Barns tall double board door under
timber lintel to bay 2 in slightly-projecting portal roofed by continuation of main
roof; to its left, 3 ties of square vents set in lozenges on lower tiers and a
triangle flanked by slit vents above; to its right, engine house with 4-sided end,
formerly having open sides, these now bricked up, some slatted windows; to right
of engine house, inserted double board door with board taking-in door with stone
sill above; dentil eaves. On right, cartshed has 3 round-arched cart openings with
square-section columns and ends of tie-rods in spandrels; granary above has tall,
narrow, board door on wooden ledge to left and a round-arched, metal-grilled
opening to right; dentil eaves. Right return: steps up to board granary door.
Left return: 3 tiers of slit vents, tripled on lower tier; in gable, pattern of
shorter vents.
