Farmhouse. Mid C18. Coursed squared stone, limestone to front and dressings,
otherwise sandstones; interlocking tile roof. 2 storeys with attic, 3 bays. Plinth,
quoins. Garden front: central C20 half-glazed door in badly weathered moulded
architrave. 16-pane sashes with projecting stone sills and raised keystones to
lintels. Eaves band. Shaped kneelers, ashlar coping. Renewed brick end stacks.
Lower addition set back on left not of special interest. Rear: 2 steps up to
central C20 6-panel door in chamfered quoined surround with cambered-arched lintel.
Side-sliding sashes of 3 lights to left bay and 2 lights to right bay, all with
stone lintels and keyed lintels. Chamfered eaves band below brick course. Shaped
kneelers, ashlar coping. Right return: ground floor of limestone; blocked gable
doorway, the former stair removed. Left return: gable window. The farm was a
grange of Byland Abbey and later belonged to the Church Commissioners.
