Small country house. C18, rebuilt early C19. Stuccoed brick, Westmorland
slate roof. 3 storeys. 5-bay garden front with 2-storey, 2-bay addition on
its right. Plinth. Part-glazed, panelled door and overlight with decorative
glazing bars in a Doric stone porch with full entablature have floral
metopes; flanking bays have unequally-hung 15-pane sashes. lst floor: band,
projecting sills to tall sashes with glazing bars. 2nd floor: projecting
sills to short 6-pane sashes. Eaves band to hipped roof with end stacks.
Addition on right has two C20 casements with glazing bars to ground floor and
central 16-pane sash over; hipped roof with tall end stack on right.
Rear: symmetrical 3-bay entrance front with part-glazed panelled door in C18
scrolled and eared architrave beneath consoled pediment; flanking sashes with
glazing bars have projecting sills and cambered heads.
1st floor: tall 18-pane stair window with floating pediment; other windows as
front. Right return: round-headed window to upper landing of service stair;
bell attached to wall on right.
Interior: entrance hall with scrolled ironwork balustrade to wooden
staircase, door architraves with floral corner blocks. Front-left
through-room with Corinthian-columned screen and basket archway, enriched
cornices and acanthus ceiling features. Front-right room with moulded ashlar
fireplace, another to rear with fine carving of grape vines. Service stair
with turned newels and square-section balusters.
