4/119 Lodge to Kirklees Hall
3.1.67
G.V. II
Lodge. Perhaps late C17. Hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roof. Single
storey with attic. 2 bays. Quoins, central ridge stack of 2 diagonal flues.
The elevation retains one 2-light mullioned window with ovolo moulded chamfer
and hoodmould. The gable end, which is coped with spike finials, has 3-light
chamfered and rebated mullioned window with hoodmould and 2-light window over
with early latticed glazing. The west side nearest the gate has a rolled coping
of medieval type (possibly re-used from Kirklees Priory), a Tudor doorway with
finely moulded jambs, and a 3-light window similar to the one on the gable end.
If this was built as a lodge, it is a very early example; the features may have
been assembled at the time the adjacent gates were erected (q.v.).
