House, c.1820 for Richard Horsfall whose name is inscribed on it. Ashlar, stone
slate roof. 2 storeys. Double depth 3-bay symmetrical facade. Plinth, band,
eaves cornice. Windows to each bay with plain stone surrounds, altered glazing.
Doorway approached up 2 steps has pilasters with recessed panels and triangular
pediment. 2-bay return with attic light. Basement window has inscribed lintel.
Rear has semi-circular arched stair window which retains margin glazing. Right
hand return wall has 3-light stepped window to each floor. Large well dressed
central stack to ridge.
Interior: Decorative cast iron stair. South-west front room has marble
fireplace with pilasters with acanthus capitals. Rear room, former kitchen has
3 wide stone fireplaces under a continuous shelf. All windows retain original
internal shutters with raised-and-fielded panels. The date of 1820 is taken
from the account books of Richard Horsfall who detailed the expenditure for
building his new house. Information supplied by owners.
